NOT JUST POPCORN Welcomes Troops to Camp Atterbury.

Owning a local popcorn store in Edinburgh Indiana, Carol Buck wanted to support the soldiers arriving at Camp Atterbury. “I was aware of the Cookies for Combat program they have here in Edinburgh, but I wanted to contribute in my own way.”

Carol Buck’s shop “Not Just Popcorn” makes 147 different flavors of popcorn. Her shop has been spotlighted on the Food Network and she ships her product all around the country. It was only natural for Carol to support the troops. Carol wanted to give gift bags to the soldiers that weighted about five pounds a piece. When she talked to the representatives at Camp Atterbury they told her that it would be better for her to give something upon the soldier’s arrival to Camp Atterbury instead of their departure. “Leave room for the bullets”, MAJ Swartz said with a smile. So Carol went to the back room of her store and started making popcorn for the soldiers. “I’ve already donated 1,400 bags this month with more orders of 400-500 coming weekly.” Even though Carol makes many different flavors of popcorn she only donates Butter and Carmel to the troops. Carol said, “I would hate to send them a flavor that they did not like and it would be wasted.”

Carol has a staff that donates their time to help make the popcorn and she has received money and donated bags from local companies to put the popcorn in. So far she has received donations from Salem Bank, Farm Service Credit, David Mock, Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, Weinantz Farms, and Calvary Christian Church.

When I asked her how long she planned on donating her time and resources to provide popcorn to the soldiers she stated, “I’ll do this until it is no longer needed.” Because of this CampAtterbury.Com is sponsoring “Not Just Popcorn” in her drive to provide all soldiers who are being deployed with little tokens of support from the local community.
